| Description: |
The NIMH Center for Bipolar Disorder of University Hospitals and the Case School of Medicine is conducting clinical research on the treatment of symptoms related to Bipolar Disorder, a mood disorder that affects more than four million people in the United States. This research study will last for up to 28 weeks, and is looking at a combination of medications for treatment. The goal of the research is to compare the effectiveness and safety of the use of two medications (lithium and depakote) versus three medications (lithium, depakote, and lamictal). Throughout participation in this research study, symptoms will be actively monitored and any changes in condition will be reviewed and appropriately treated. |
| Criteria: |
Participants must be at least 16 years of age and be experiencing symptoms related to depression. Participants should have a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, although participants do not need to have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Participants will receive an evaluation and diagnosis at no cost . Participants cannot have used Lamictal (lamotrigine). |
