University Hospitals offers surgical procedures encompassing a vast array of disciplines. Our highly trained surgeons specialize in areas such as transplant, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and surgical oncology. University Hospitals is also home to some of the foremost experts in pediatric surgery. Surgeons have faculty appointments at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and are either Board Certified or Board eligible in their respective surgical disciplines.

The nationally renowned University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute’s Heart Surgery Center specializes in a full range of diseases affecting the heart, aorta and blood vessels, and performs operations such as bypass surgery, congenital heart surgery, aneurysm procedures, and stentless valve replacement.
Colorectal Surgery>

The Division of Colorectal Surgery uses the latest diagnostic and surgical techniques to treat patients suffering from disorders of the colon and rectum. Our highly trained surgeons are on the leading edge of laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures to treat colorectal cancer and other diseases, procedures that can reduce strain on other organs, reduce pain and shorten recovery times. Scientists and clinicians with UH are also conducting research on various elements of colorectal diseases and surgery, giving patients access to the very latest treatment options.

General & Gastrointestinal Surgery>

University Hospitals Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery is led by experienced surgeons trained in minimally invasive techniques as well as more traditional approaches to the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. Our team consults with specialists in many fields to come up with comprehensive, individualized treatment plans. Some of the operations we perform include hernia repair, endoscopy, appendectomy and surgical treatment of gastrointestinal cancer.

Minimally Invasive Surgery>

The minimally invasive surgery program at University Hospitals uses special instruments and innovative technology to perform procedures with smaller incisions, leading to less pain, reduced risk of complications, shorter recovery times and less scarring. The oral and maxillofacial surgery team at University Hospitals performs many procedures relating to problems with the teeth, face and jaw, including the removal of impacted teeth and reconstructive facial surgery.

Pediatric Surgery>

The Division of Pediatric Surgery combines the superior skills of our surgeons with the unsurpassed pediatric care of UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Our surgical team confers with specialists across multiple disciplines to come up with the treatment plan that will work best for each child and his or her family. The pediatric surgeons at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital are recognized as leaders in their field, providing outcomes ranked among the best in the country. Some of the surgical specialists offered include cardiothoracic, neurological, orthopaedic, otolaryngology and plastic surgery.

Surgical Oncology>

University Hospitals surgical oncology division works with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center to provide cutting-edge surgical options for many different types of cancer. Our team works with specialists across multiple disciplines to tailor treatment plans to each individual patient. Some of the cancers our surgical oncology team treats include breast cancer, skin cancer, head and neck cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and brain cancer.

Thoracic & Esophageal Surgery>

University Hospitals Division of Thoracic & Esophageal Surgery is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to patients who suffer from a variety of conditions involving the chest, lungs and esophagus. Comprehensive Hernia Center>

University Hospitals Comprehensive Hernia Center is leading the way in innovative minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and other techniques for hernia repair operations. The combined expertise and experience of our surgeons has resulted in a less than 1 percent recurrence rate for patients, well below the national average. Our nationally recognized team of experts performs repairs on all types of hernias, including inquinal, umbilical, incisional/ventral, hiatal and femoral.
