Cochlear Implant Rehabilitation
Speech Therapy for Hearing Loss or Cochlear Implants
At University Hospitals, specially trained speech-language pathologists provide aural rehabilitation for adults with hearing loss and/or cochlear implants. Therapy focuses on helping these adults develop their listening skills to optimize communication with others and promote management and optimal use of their hearing aids or cochlear implants.
Patients are provided with coaching and support, learning strategies to help facilitate communication at home, at work, and in their communities. Throughout the therapy, the speech-language pathologist works closely with other members of the adult's treatment team which may include an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physician, audiologist, or other members of the Cochlear Implant Team.
