Vascular and Interventional Radiology Team Offers Patients Convenient Access and Comprehensive Services

Vascular & Interventional Radiology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center offers a full range of diagnostic services and image-guided therapies for patients. We take pride in being easily accessible. Our top priority is our responsiveness to a patient’s inquiries and relationships with referring physicians.

Effective Diagnosis and Treatment

Interventional radiologists are involved in the treatment of the patient, as well as the diagnosis of disease. They treat an ever-widening range of conditions inside the body from outside the body by using various small instruments such as catheters or wires, using X-ray and imaging techniques. Interventional radiology offers an alternative treatment to surgery for many conditions and in some cases, can limit the need for hospitalization.

Complete Range of Procedures

An interventional radiologist is a medical doctor who works closely with other physicians and plays an important role on a patient’s treatment team. UH Case Medical Center interventional radiologists perform a variety of procedures, including:

  • Angiography
  • Angioplasty
  • Embolization
  • Gastrostomy tubes
  • Intravascular Ultrasound
  • Stent Placement
  • Foreign Body Extraction - the use of a catheter inserted into a blood vessel to retrieve a foreign body in the vessel.
  • Needle Biopsy – a small needle is inserted into the abnormal area in almost any part of the body, guided by imaging techniques, to obtain a tissue biopsy. This type of biopsy can provide a diagnosis without surgical intervention. An example of this procedure is called the needle breast biopsy.
  • Blood Clot Filters - a small filter is inserted into a blood clot to catch and break up clots.
  • Injection of clot-lysing agents – clot-lysing agents, such as tissue plasminogen activator (TPA), are injected into the body to dissolve blood clots, thereby increasing blood flow to the hear or brain.
  • Catheter Insertions
  • Cancer Treatment - administering cancer medications directly to the tumor site.
