University Hospitals Case Medical Center Team Provides the Finest Preoperative Care

UH Case Medical Center may request that a patient attend perianesthesia testing several days or weeks prior to the scheduled surgery. During this visit, the center’s expert medical team will review all of the patient’s medical conditions, medications and laboratory results, ensuring that the individual is ready to receive anesthesia and undergo the surgical procedure.

The Testing Process

As part of the perianesthesia evaluation, the patient will have blood drawn, receive an EKG, and have X-rays completed. The perianesthesia team will make consultation recommendations for other services if needed prior to surgery, such as an appointment with a cardiologist. The team may also prescribe new medications or advise patients to stop taking current medications.

The perianesthesia meeting is an extra step that the center takes to protect and ensure the safety of all patients. Our goal is to exceed patient expectations by offering the best in preoperative care.

Vital Preadmission Testing Information

A patient’s preadmission appointment will be assigned by the UH Case Medical Center surgeon’s office. Patients should bring the following items to the appointment:

  • Name and contact information for all physicians the patient sees on a regular basis
  • A list of past surgical procedures
  • A list of current medications, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements
  • A list of questions regarding the procedure
  • Health insurance card and related information

The day of the pre-assessment testing visit, patients should take medication as prescribed by their physician. Patients are requested to eat breakfast or other regularly scheduled meals prior to arrival for preadmission testing. Fasting is not required unless specified by a physician.
