The incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma has been rising the past few decades, and patients with Barrett’s esophagus have a 30 to 60 times higher risk of developing esophageal adenocarcinoma compared with the general population. Because of the poor prognosis, prevention of esophageal adenocarcinoma is an important clinical goal.
