General Application Information

The Case Western Reserve University Orthopaedics Residency Program accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Applications Service (ERAS). Three interview dates are scheduled during the months of November, December and January, and approximately thirty candidates are interviewed during each session. Candidates are interviewed by Case attendings and at least one chief resident. Additionally, members of each residency class are available for campus tours and informal question-and-answer sessions. Interviews are granted by invitation via e-mail.

Application Requirements

We require all of the basic ERAS application materials as well as an undergraduate school transcript. This undergraduate transcript may be sent to us in a variety of ways. You may:

  • scan it through the ERAS system if your medical school will allow it
  • have an official copy sent from your undergraduate school to Ellen Greenberger, Educational Coordinator, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Case School of Medicine/University Hospitals, 11100 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106-5043
  • fax us a copy you may have in your possession; our fax number is 216-844-8181

The deadline for all application materials is November 1. Those selected for interviews will be notified by e-mail.

For Foreign / United States Medical School Graduates

It is Hospital policy to comply with the immigration laws of the United States, and all Residents must obtain and maintain an immigration status that permits employment by the Hospital in a clinical capacity. Although several types of visas may qualify a non-US worker to practice clinically at the Hospital, it is Hospital policy to participate only in the application for a J-l visa. This includes the requirement that an International Medical Graduate (IMG), hold a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). If, at any time, a Resident fails to timely obtain or retain the requisite visa status from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) (formerly the Immigration and Naturalization Service) the Resident will be subject to dismissal or leave of absence, with or without pay, at the discretion of the Director of GME, in view of all the surrounding circumstances. The Hospital does not support the pursuit of H-1B visas for Residents (both IMG’s and United States medical school graduates).
