How to Apply for a Postdoctoral Position on the Training Program in Musculoskeletal Research

I. Eligibility. To be eligible to apply, a potential postdoctoral trainee must have documented:

• U.S. citizenship (or permanent residency with a green card I-551).
• a doctoral degree or completion of all degree requirements.
• research experience.
• a mentor from the training grant faculty. CWRU faculty mentors who wish to join the training grant faculty should contact Ed Greenfield PhD.
• a commitment to be on the training grant for at least 2 years.
• no more than 1 year of previous postdoctoral service on another NIH training grant. (NIH allows only 3 years of cumulative postdoctoral support from training grants.)
• a commitment to serve full-time on the training grant. Any clinical responsibilities must be related to the trainee’s research.
• intention to attend the regular musculoskeletal conferences and journal club.
• a commitment to a future, independent research career that involves musculoskeletal research.

II. Application. The following application materials should be forwarded to Valerie Schmedlen:

• a letter of nomination by the applicant’s research mentor, a faculty member of this training grant.
• the NIH biosketch of the training mentor.
• the trainee candidate’s CV.
• a copy of (or a link to) 2 of the trainee’s peer-reviewed publications.
• recommendation letters from 3 references, including the trainee’s PhD thesis advisor.
• a short description of the candidate’s research project (in the candidate’s own words).
• a short description of the candidate’s career plans.

The Steering Committee will interview eligible candidates.
