UH Department of Radiology Earns Awards Recognizing Innovation in IT Solutions
The Department of Radiology at UH Case Medical Center has received national recognition for implementing innovative information technology solutions that increase efficiency and lead to better patient care.
University Hospitals Department of Radiology was named a semifinalist for the HIMSS 2012 Conference Healthcare Informatics IT Innovator Award. This award recognizes leaders in the health care field for strategically leveraging information technology to improve quality of care, patient safety, efficiency and data exchange.
University Hospitals was also honored with a 2011 HP Mission-Critical Innovation Award for designing and implementing a new data-sharing system for the Department of Radiology. The award recognizes organizations for their work in developing IT solutions for mission-critical computing and achieving new levels of reliability with complex applications.
UH received the award in the Humanitarian / Environmental Impact category for developing an online storage and disaster-recovery site, which provides continuous availability of radiology reports and images across all UH facilities. The current system is now sized to handle one million exams annually. This innovative solution has been critical in improving and standardizing patient care by making images accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
