The
Department of Urology’s research efforts focus on expanding the uses of minimally invasive techniques and evaluating the safety and effectiveness of new treatments. The Department also takes an active role in developing, assessing and defining the appropriate applications of new technologies and therapies.
Surgical Research
The Department's surgeons and physicians work closely with scientists and researchers to provide patients with pioneering therapy options as they emerge from the laboratory. Guidelines currently are being developed to evaluate cancer responses to new therapies, further enhancing our physicians' ability to match patients with the medical options best suited to their individual cases.
Clinical Trials
Working in conjunction with University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center, the Department provides its patients with access to the latest medical developments and pioneering breakthroughs through its focused and intensive commitment to clinical trials. Designed to improve current treatments, clinical trials are cancer treatments or research studies that test new developments to enhance standard therapies.
Patients may be eligible to participate in the substantial number of trials offered by the Department after receiving a comprehensive evaluation to determine which clinical trials are the most appropriate and best suited to their individual needs.

Translational Research
Case Western Reserve University's Translational Research Core (TRC) coordinates the analysis and management of data obtained during clinical trials. The TRC team works closely with the Department's medical team in providing the infrastructure necessary to help analyze, assess and define therapeutic options and their effects at the cellular level.
