Your Care Team

Experience and Expertise from a Team of Health Care Professionals

Our goal is to develop trusting and personal relationships with patients and families right from the start. A nurse will conduct a personal orientation with the patient when he or she is admitted. The individual’s nurse will continue to meet with him or her and his or her family members each day during the hospital stay.

When it is time to leave, patients are guided through the discharge process and again any concerns will be addressed. We also follow up with individuals by phone once they leave the hospital. These discussions are our chance to listen and answer any remaining questions.

Patient Health Care Team

Patients at University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center benefit from the experience and expertise of a coordinated team of health care professionals.

Attending physician: The physician who admitted the patient to the hospital; the doctor in charge of the individual’s care.

Consulting physician: A physician called upon by the attending physician to assist in diagnosis and/or treatment.

Physician assistant: Physician assistants are licensed health care professionals who practice medicine with physician supervision. They can provide a broad range of testing and treatment services.

At UH Ahuja Medical Center, nurses are our frontline and the backbone of our staff. They constantly monitor the status of our patients and assure their well-being. A registered nurse (RN) performs a nursing assessment for every patient, from which a written nursing plan is developed.

Nurse managers/charge nurses: Supervisors of the hospital units

Care coordinator: These RNs are based in the nursing units. They coordinate care, communication and discharge planning.

Registered nurse: An RN is responsible for a patient’s care at all times. The RN assists physicians during treatments and examinations, administers medications, keeps tabs on vital signs and manages the overall treatment plan on a day-to-day basis.

Advanced practice nurse: These RNs have additional education and training in specific areas of expertise. Clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners are among advanced practice nurses who contribute the experience and skill to the care plan.

Clinical technical assistant: Assistants who help with patient care, under the direction of a RN.

A hospitalist is a doctor who works closely with primary care physicians to provide the best care for each patient during his or her hospital stay. The hospitalist program at UH Ahuja Medical Center provides a regular rotation of dedicated physician coverage for inpatients, 24 hours a day. Our hospitalists are board-certified or board-eligible physicians who specialize in caring for patients while they are staying at the hospital.

Contact the UH Ahuja Medical Center hospitalist office at 216-285-4040 with any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding patient care or satisfaction.

Other care providers

Physical therapist: Physical therapists help patients build strength, improve function and move independently.

Social worker: Social workers help families adjust to illness, access useful community resources, including resources sometimes available for prescription discounts and help arrange needed services at home.
