Education and Outreach

Advocating sustainable practices as a community health imperative

We engage employees through celebratory events including Earth Day, Bike to Work Day, Food Day and an Annual Sustainability Celebration dinner, as well as through wellness outreach challenges around biking and energy and through Green Health Heroes, an employee recognition program where peer-nominated employees are lauded for forging their own paths in helping UH to advance environmental responsibility, promote health and wellness, and save on costs. Eight Green Health Heroes were recognized in 2014.

Leaders and staff contribute expert voices to various regional, state and national advocacy and leadership forums at the intersections of sustainable practices in health care and community well-being. These forums include active committees, councils, working groups and collaboratives that engage leading institutions in local and national public health, economic, social, environmental, and climate action landscapes and discussions.

We cultivate and nurture sustainability along with peer institutions through professional conference presentations and workshops, sharing calls and webinars, expanding the positive impact of UH’s efforts through the health care world.
