Display for Proper Waste Segregation, Earth Day 2013 - UH Conneaut Medical Center

Staff at UH Conneaut Medical Center realized great success in their sustainability efforts in 2013, particularly in several outcome areas of the Healthier Hospital Initiatives (HHI). By participating in the CleanMed 2013 conference on sustainability in healthcare, representatives from UH Conneaut learned best practices from around the country and formulated plans around the HHI Challenge Areas of Leaner Energy, Healthier Foods, Less Waste, and Engaged Leadership. For instance, the facility’s regulated medical waste was kept to less than 5% of the total waste stream, and 33% of its total waste was recycled through a single stream program. Furthermore the building’s electricity usage was reduced by 102,240 kWh in 2013 versus 2012.
