Earth Day Tree Planting UH Bedford Medical Center

Earth Day Tree Planting - UH Bedford Medical Center

Throughout 2013, UH Bedford Medical Center engaged in several sustainability initiatives in order to reduce their environmental impact and educate their community. For instance, representatives from UH Bedford observed Earth Day for an entire week and encouraged staff, patients, and visitors to participate in various activities such as battery and confidential document recycling. Within the facility, monthly audits were conducted throughout the year to ensure that waste was being disposed of properly. The Blue Wrap Recycling Program was started throughout the operating rooms to help decrease the amount of solid waste that ends up in landfills. Further, the staff at UH Bedford contributed to an increase in the facility’s recycling rate. Overall, their recycling rate increased to 34%. Also, UH Bedford implemented a food waste composting program and tracking system and composted an impressive 3.6 tons in 2013.
