- How do I gain access to a patient for an interview?
-
When the media wants to interview or photograph a patient, a member of the University Hospitals’ media relations team will check with the appropriate hospital staff to ensure the patient is physically and emotionally capable.
The Media Relations representative must obtain the patient's permission. If the patient is a minor, permission must be obtained from the parent or legal guardian. If the patient is under arrest, permission also must be obtained from the law enforcement officer in charge of the patient's custody. Media representatives will be accompanied by a UH media relations professional at all times while in the hospital.
- How do I get a condition report on a University Hospitals patient?
-
Due to patient confidentiality requirements, members of the UH Media Team are available to provide one-word condition reports on current patients being treated at our facilities. Additional information on those patients, and any information on other patients, is only released as permitted by patients and their families. For a condition on a UH patient, call 216-844-3825 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
For a patient condition after hours or on weekends, call the UH operators at 216-844-1000 and ask to page the Media Relations team member on call. A UH Media Relations team member is on call 24/7.
- How do I work with UH’s broadcast studio?
-
Through the appropriate media representative, University Hospitals experts can be interviewed at an on-site satellite-capable video studio for live or live-to-tape television interviews. The studio is available 24/7. Please contact a media representative to make the arrangements.
- How do I schedule an interview with a physician?
-
The UH Media Relations Team provides assistance to news reporters, photographers and video crews who wish to arrange phone interviews or in-person sessions with UH physicians, scientists, staff and patients. We find that our assistance, whether in arranging a simple phone conversation or an elaborate video shoot, makes the interaction go much more smoothly for all involved. Our assistance and presence is required for any visits by members of the media to all UH facilities.
- What do I do after hours?
-
Reporters calling before or after regular business hours should call 216-844-1000 and ask the operator to page the Media Relations representative on-call.
- How do I reach someone in the media department?
-
The Media Relations staff is available to respond to journalists' inquiries and requests. In addition to providing news releases and tip sheets, we also provide photographs and digital images, interview scheduling, studio for on-site radio taping or remote interviewing, and background information on research and faculty.
