Anthony E. Bacevice, Jr., MD, MSE, Named Chief Medical Officer at UH Elyria Medical Center

ELYRIA, OH – Board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist Anthony E. Bacevice, Jr., MD, MSE, has been named Chief Medical Officer at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. Dr. Bacevice has been practicing medicine at the hospital since 1988, and most recently served as medical director of UH Elyria Medical Center’s Family Birth Center.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Bacevice will lead major initiatives at the hospital including high-reliability medicine, quality and safety, patient advocacy and physician relations. He will also further create and sustain a culture of safety, quality and value at UH Elyria Medical Center. In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. Bacevice will continue to devote a portion of his workload to clinical practice – maintaining his office at UH Avon Health Center.

Dr. Bacevice received his undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees from Case Western Reserve University. Before deciding to pursue a career in medicine, he received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in biomedical engineering. He serves as an assistant clinical professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s department of reproductive biology in the division of maternal-fetal medicine.

Throughout his career, Dr. Bacevice has held multiple positions in medical staff leadership as well as in hospital administration. He has directed many initiatives focused on quality of care, and is currently involved in implementing UH’s Obstetrics Network Maternity Level 2 Guidelines. He has also advised and advocated for the transition to electronic health records and is a member of the Clinical Advisory Council of CliniSync, the health information exchange (HIE) of the Ohio Health Information Partnership. Dr. Bacevice has been a member of the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio (AMCNO) since 1988; has served as president of the organization; and, currently represents both UH Elyria Medical Center and the academy in the HIE effort.
