Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation Awards Student Scholarships

RAVENNA,  Ohio – The Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation recently awarded seven scholarships from donor-directed funds to children of Robinson Memorial Hospital and Robinson Health Affiliates, Inc. employees. Five $1,000 scholarships from the Dr. Peter Chen Medical Staff Scholarship Fund, one $1,000 scholarship from the Delbert and Marcella Shilling Scholarship Fund and one $1,000 scholarship from the Dr. Steve and Patti Dean Scholarship Fund were awarded.

This year’s scholarship recipients were selected by a committee comprised of members from the Portage County Retired Teachers Association.

The Peter F. Chen, M.D. Medical Staff Scholarship Fund was established by Dr. Chen to provide scholarships to high school graduating legal dependents of employees of Robinson Memorial Hospital and Robinson Health Affiliates, Inc., in recognition of contributions employees make in caring for patients.

Recipients of the Dr. Peter Chen Medical Staff Scholarships are Savannah Frase, Courtney Herring, Seth Miller, and Isabella Scarl, and Kylie Smith

Savannah Frase, of Hartville, is a 2015 graduate of Marlington High School and plans to study actuarial science at The University of Akron. She is the daughter of David Frase, director of ambulatory services at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Courtney Herring, of Kent, is a 2015 graduate of Stow Munroe Falls High School and plans to attend The University of Akron to study biomedical engineering. She is the daughter of Deborah Herring, administration administrative assistant at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Seth Miller, of Garrettsville, is a 2015 graduate of James A. Garfield High School and plans to study mechanical engineering at Miami University. He is the son of Brenda Miller, a registered nurse at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Isabella Scarl, of Lake Milton, is a 2015 graduate of Jackson Milton High School and plans to study nursing at Kent State University. She is the daughter of Carol Scarl, a registered nurse at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Kylie Smith, of Atwater, is a 2015 graduate of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and plans to attend The University of Akron to study social work. She is the daughter of Rhonda Smith, interim chief information officer at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

The Delbert and Marcella Shilling Scholarship was established by the Shilling family in memory of Delbert and Marcella Shilling to provide scholarships to legal dependents of Robinson Memorial Hospital and Robinson Health Affiliates, Inc. employees attending an institution of higher learning.

Receiving the Delbert and Marcella Shilling Scholarship for 2015 is Calli Dieglio, of Munroe Falls, who attends John Carroll University majoring in English. She is the daughter of Anne Dieglio, registered nurse at Robison Memorial Hospital.

The Dr. Steve and Patti Dean Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 to provide scholarships for legal dependents of employees of Robinson Memorial Hospital and Robinson Health Affiliates, Inc., who are current students at Kent State University.

Receiving the Dr. Steve and Patti Dean Scholarship for 2015 is John Seidel, of Kent. Seidel is studying political science at Kent State University and is the son of Joan Seidel, infection preventionist at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
