Top organizations honored with 2015 Awards for Excellence

GEAUGA COUNTY – University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center has been named a high-performing organization for innovation, results and visionary leadership that inspire improved health care for area residents.

The hospital and eight other organizations in Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia earned 2015 Awards for Excellence by The Partnership for Excellence (TPE). TPE evaluates organizations according to internationally recognized Malcolm Baldrige criteria for performance excellence.

“Our goal is to continuously improve UH Geauga Medical Center to best serve our patients and our community,” said hospital President M. Steven Jones. “We underwent a comprehensive assessment to help us better understand and prioritize key strengths and opportunities for improvement. And this helps us sharpen our focus on patients, processes, systems and outcomes.”

TPE applicants are evaluated rigorously by an independent board of examiners in seven areas defined by the Baldrige criteria: leadership; strategic planning; customer focus; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce focus; operations focus; and results. The evaluation process for each of the recipients included more than 1,000 hours of review and a three-day visit by a team of examiners. An independent panel of judges reviewed each organization’s evaluation, approved final feedback reports, and developed award recommendations, which were unanimously approved by TPE’s Board of Trustees.

Award-winning organizations typically see lower costs, improved productivity and increases in both employee and customer satisfaction. The results are higher-quality services, job creation, and more efficiency and effectiveness, with significant impact on the lives of thousands. The 2015 Partnership for Excellence award recipients will be honored at TPE’s Annual Quest for Success Conference in September.

During the past year, UH Geauga Medical Center was also named a high-performing hospital in the Cleveland metro area in six specialties by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, The Joint Commission, which accredits and certifies health care organizations nationally, recognized the UH Geauga Medical Center as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.
