University Hospitals Elyria and Westlake Wound Care Centers Recognized for Excellence in Wound Healing

ELYRIA and WESTLAKE, OH – The University Hospitals Elyria and Westlake Wound Care Centers are the proud recipients of national awards from Healogics, Inc., the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services.

Both the UH Elyria Wound Care Center and the UH Westlake Wound Care Center received the 2015 Center of Distinction Award. In doing so, they achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 96 percent, wound healing rates of at least 91 percent within 28 median days to heal, and other quality outcomes. Out of 563 centers eligible for the award only 152 achieved this honor. This is the fourth Center of Distinction Award the Elyria facility has received since it opened in July, 2008.

A second, even more prestigious honor was bestowed upon the UH Elyria Wound Care Center - the 2015 Robert A. Warriner III, MD, Center of Excellence Award. In addition to meeting the Center of Distinction criteria, it achieved patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days for a minimum of two consecutive years. Only 88 centers out of 155 that were eligible received the award.

Ken Larissey, Director of the UH Elyria and UH Westlake Wound Care Centers is proud of the recognition that both locations have received. He stated, “We are humbled and honored by these awards.” He continued, “It is our privilege to serve patients who entrust us with their care. Receiving the Center of Distinction and Center of Excellence awards reaffirms that we are not only meeting but exceeding national benchmarks in wound care.”

The UH Elyria and UH Westlake Wound Care Centers are members of the Healogics Network of more than 810 centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating more than two million chronic wounds. Both locations offer highly-specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Advanced treatments include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.
