Connor Integrative Medicine Network Earns Grant to Study Meditation and Blood Pressure

Francoise Adan, MD and the Connor Integrative Medicine Network receive a $500,000 NIH grant to study the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction through meditation.

The Connor Integrative Medicine Network at University Hospitals will receive a $500,000 grant to study meditation and blood pressure. Francoise Adan, MD is the principal investigator (PI) for the University Site for this five-year research project in which adults ages 30 to 60 will receive one of two programs that teach strategies to better manage their stress. Mindfulness-based stress reduction through meditation will be compared to stress management education without meditation. Additionally, all patients will receive standard information from the American Heart Association on how to eat healthy and exercise. The RO1 research grant from the National Institutes of Health is part of $3.6 million grant shared between the Connor Integrative Medicine Network, David Fresco, PhD and Joel Hughes, PhD at Kent State University, and Jeffrey Greeson, PhD at University of Pennsylvania.
