Accessibility increases convenience for cancer and arthritis patients in Ashtabula and Lake Counties

ASHTABULA COUNTY – University Hospitals (UH) is continuing the growth and evolution of its infusion therapy capabilities in Ashtabula County. In May, UH Conneaut Medical Center expanded the frequency of its existing infusion services, while UH Geneva Medical Center is planning to add chemotherapy to its current infusion program later this year.

The expansion means that Ashtabula and Lake County residents with common types of cancer have even greater accessibility to outpatient chemotherapy infusion services. “Cancer patients living in the area who need consecutive days of treatment now have the option of coming to Conneaut to receive their life-saving care,” says Karen McNeil, BSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer, UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers.

In addition, patients can receive Remicade® therapy for rheumatoid arthritis and antibiotic injections in both Conneaut and Geneva. “We also perform blood transfusions,” says Tracy Waller, BSN, RN, CNOR, Manager of Perioperative Services, UH Geneva Medical Center.

Each infusion location offers comfortable, private environments. Patients have their own room, family members can stay with them during therapy and meals may be ordered from the hospitals’ cafeteria. “We provide outpatient services close to home that enable people to avoid the stress, exhaustion and cost of traveling long distances for their care,” says Justine Harrison, BSN, RN, Manager of Perioperative Services, UH Conneaut Medical Center.
