Wellness event includes physician talks, free health screenings, brunch and fashion show

ASHTABULA COUNTY—The first annual University Hospitals (UH) Conneaut and Geneva medical centers Women’s Health Expo will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. The free interactive event is designed to empower women in the Ashtabula County area to proactively focus on wellness in their daily lives.

The Expo is scheduled to take place at Our Lady of Peace Mount Carmel Community Center, located at 1200 East 21st Street in Ashtabula. The program will begin with a discussion titled, “Maintaining Your Health,” followed by a panel of physicians from UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers addressing wellness topics including women’s health, cardiology, cancer, urology, orthopaedics, digestive health and pain management.

The Women’s Health Expo will also offer:

  • A complimentary brunch
  • Community vendor booths (open at 8 a.m.)
  • A fashion show, sponsored by JC Penney in Ashtabula, featuring Ashtabula and Lake County alumni patients from the Center for Bariatric Surgery program at UH Geauga Medical Center in Chardon
  • Free health screenings including blood pressure and cholesterol

The event will conclude with a presentation on comprehensive women’s wellness by Conneaut Primary Care physician Abi Sundaramoorthy, MD.

“I will be speaking to our community’s women about what we can do to maintain our health, self-confidence and quality of life as we get older,” says Dr. Abi, a board-certified University Hospitals Internal Medicine physician. “I’ll address the importance of diet and exercise as well as preventive steps we all need to take as our bodies change. These include regular screenings for diabetes, breast cancer, osteoporosis and colon cancer, which many women mistakenly believe is only a serious concern for men.”

Registration is required by Monday, May 5 to attend the free UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers Women’s Health Expo, and space is limited. For more information or to reserve your place, call 440-285-7757.
