Preston Superstore in Burton commits to raising donations to benefit hospital’s cancer patients

GEAUGA COUNTY – University Hospitals (UH) Geauga Medical Center actively develops relationships with area businesses to enhance the scope and quality of its services to patients and the entire Geauga County community.

One such collaboration is between UH Geauga Medical Center and Preston Superstore, an automobile sales and service business located in Burton. For National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Preston Superstore’s management pledged to donate to the hospital one dollar for every oil change they completed during October. In March they presented UH Geauga Medical Center leadership with a check for $1,200.

The company, a family-operated business owned by president and Newbury resident Pat Preston, has donated approximately $60,000 to UH Geauga Medical Center over the years. The breast cancer awareness donation marks the beginning of a new phase of the company’s philanthropic commitment to the hospital.

“We know how important great medical care is to our area,” says Jackie Preston Franck, Marketing and Advertising Director, Preston Superstore. “We have a responsibility to our employees and our community to help maintain and even enhance the high level of care available at UH Geauga Medical Center on an ongoing basis.”

The company has requested that their donation be used to help cancer patients. “Because of its full-service capabilities, many cancer patients travel to our UH Seidman Cancer Center radiation oncology facility from as far away as Ashtabula, Lake, Trumbull and Portage Counties,” says M. Steven Jones, President, UH Geauga Medical Center. “We are considering using Preston Superstore’s generous donation to enhance our patients’ transportation options and make it less of a challenge for them to get here.”

Jackie Preston Franck is a member of the hospital’s Leadership Council, a group of local civic and business leaders that fosters philanthropic initiatives for the wellness of the community at large. “We’re very lucky to have a hospital like UH Geauga Medical Center so close, where you can be confident you’re getting outstanding care,” says Ms. Franck. “It’s only right for residents and area businesses to support it for the sake of everyone’s quality of life.”

Preston Superstore plans to participate in UH Geauga Medical Center’s annual “Bras For a Cause” breast cancer initiative, May 5 - 17, which benefits the hospital’s UH Seidman Cancer Center. The company is also planning additional fundraising efforts on behalf of the hospital’s cancer patients, including another round of oil change-based donations this coming October.

“We are grateful that companies like Preston Superstore are setting such a fine example for Geauga County’s business community,” says Mr. Jones. “On behalf of our patients, we look forward to a long, healthy relationship with Pat Preston and all the members of his family and staff.”
