University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Safe Kids Greater Cleveland Join Local Students to Promote Safe Walking to School

More than 11,000 local children will participate in Walk to School Day Activities

WHAT: UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, as lead agency for Safe Kids Greater Cleveland, will join Greater Cleveland children to walk to celebrate International Walk to School Week from October 7-11. More than 250,000 children nationally and over 11,000 children locally will participate in the event that promotes safe walking skills and encourages the creation of safer walking environments.

Students at Grindstone Elementary in Berea will walk through their neighborhood to school with parents, teachers, police officers, FedEx volunteers and members of Safe Kids Greater Cleveland on Wednesday, October 9 to observe International Walk to School Day. Grindstone Elementary is kicking off their pedestrian safety program with the launch of their Walking School Bus and the unveiling of other pedestrian safety initiatives. Along with Grindstone, forty other schools in Greater Cleveland are celebrating International Walk to School Week by participating in their own Walk to School Day events.

WHEN/WHERE: Wednesday, October 9 at 8:00 am - Begin walk at Lou Groza Field 2770 Pleasant St. and walk to Grindstone Elementary.
