Collaboration will also help explain Affordable Care Act to consumers and provide new tools and information on how to access coverage

Cleveland, OH – Oct. 22, 2013 – Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and University Hospitals (UH) in Cleveland have announced that UH will be a preferred provider for Anthem insurance plans that are part of the new federal Health Insurance Marketplace (exchange) for northern Ohio. Created as part of the Affordable Care Act, the Health Insurance Marketplace is where individuals and small groups may purchase federally qualified health care plans.

Under the agreement UH will serve as a preferred provider for northern Ohio residents who purchase an Anthem insurance plan on the new Health Insurance Marketplace. All University Hospitals facilities and physicians serving 16 counties in northeast Ohio are participating, including the nationally recognized UH Case Medical Center, UH Seidman Cancer Center, UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital, UH Ahuja Medical Center, UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, Southwest General Hospital, St. John Medical Center, the new UH Rehabilitation Hospital, five additional community medical centers and 21 outpatient health centers.

Anthem and UH are also working together to educate local consumers about the new health care reform law and provide them with information on how to access coverage and understand other changes they may experience as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

“This is an unprecedented time in health care, and we are glad that this agreement with a highly regarded insurance company will provide access to everything that University Hospitals has to offer. Particularly, for those who previously struggled to obtain insurance coverage,” said Brent Carson, Vice President, Managed Care, UH.

Consumers also can find information at the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield educational website, healthcarereformforyou.com, which provides a comprehensive guide to the law with detailed information on benefits, financial assistance, the enrollment process and other topics. “We feel University Hospitals is uniquely positioned in this region, a willing partner with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, patient-centric care to northern Ohio patients and their families,” said John Cooper, Vice President of Individual and Small Group Sales for Anthem. “We are pleased to align with them with our efforts to provide consumers with affordable health benefits solutions through the Marketplace.”

Beginning Jan. 1, 2014, Anthem will offer a variety of product options on the Ohio Health Insurance Marketplace for both individuals and small employers. Members choosing products through the exchange will have in-network benefits only by accessing preferred providers like UH, those who collaborate with us to help provide affordable, quality care.

The Affordable Care Act mandates that all individuals have some sort of private, governmental, or employer-sponsored health insurance by Jan.1, 2014. Enrollment in Ohio’s Health Insurance Exchange began Oct. 1.
