American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation recognizes outstanding outcomes

GEAUGA COUNTY – University Hospitals (UH) Geauga Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has been recertified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The hospital’s program was once again recognized for its commitment to improving the lives of its patients by enhancing the standards of cardiac care. AACVPR program certification is valid for three years.

The UH Geauga Medical Center Cardiac Rehab Program, part of the UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, is designed to help patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary problems such as heart attack, coronary artery disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease recover faster and return to function as completely as possible. The full-service program includes exercise, education, counseling and support for patients and their families.

“Our staff is dedicated to helping cardiac patients achieve a quality of life comparable to what they had prior to the onset of their current health status,” says Lorraine B. Stojkov, MBA, RT(R), RCIS, Manager of Cardiovascular Services and Outpatient Clinics, UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute at UH Geauga Medical Center. “The rehabilitation program not only returns them to the daily activities to which they were accustomed, it gives them a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie, as well as the tools to continue a healthy lifestyle.”

UH Geauga Medical Center participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of the rehab program’s practices. AACVPR certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other professional societies. Each program is reviewed by the organization’s Program Certification Committee and final certification is awarded by its Board of Directors.

“With the 2013 AACVPR recertification of our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, our hospital is once again recognized as a leader in cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation with the most advanced practices available to our patients and our entire community,” says M. Steven Jones, President, UH Geauga Medical Center.
