New internal medicine practice fills critical adult primary care need for the Conneaut community

ASHTABULA COUNTY – University Hospitals (UH) Conneaut Medical Center welcomes University Hospitals Internal Medicine physician Abi Sundaramoorthy, MD, to the Conneaut community. Dr. Abi comes to the area following the completion of her internal medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She has privileges at UH Conneaut Medical Center and UH Case Medical Center, and will see patients at Conneaut Primary Care, 167F West Main Road in Conneaut.

When she officially opens her Conneaut practice on November 1, Dr. Abi will be providing a much-needed resource for primary medical care to adults in eastern Ashtabula County. “My main interests include the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems,” says Dr. Abi, who now resides in Conneaut. “I’ll be focusing on patients with cardiovascular disease and helping them to reduce their risk factors like smoking, hypertension and high cholesterol. I want to promote good heart and lung health in the Conneaut community.”

Diabetes management and prevention is another of Dr. Abi’s clinical interests. “With diabetes, many aspects of the disease and its effects on quality of life are within patients’ control and can be improved by the choices they make,” she says. “With my training, I feel I can make a positive impact on the Conneaut community with individualized diabetes education and care.”

Dr. Abi also looks forward to providing her internal medicine expertise to patients at UH Conneaut Medical Center in the areas of presurgical and hospitalist care. “The recruitment of Dr. Abi Sundaramoorthy to Conneaut is tremendous,” says Robert G. David, President, UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers. “She is a very kind, caring, energetic, bright and articulate physician who brings a wealth of talent to our community. I couldn’t be happier for the residents of Conneaut knowing they now have access to a medical expert like Dr. Abi.”

In the weeks surrounding Dr. Abi’s arrival, UH Conneaut Medical Center will offer free health screenings at Conneaut Primary Care from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on these dates:

  • October 17 – Blood glucose
  • October 24 – Cholesterol
  • October 31 – Heel bone density
  • November 7 – Blood pressure

On November 13 at 9 a.m., Dr. Abi will appear with Benjamin Bryant, MD, Chairman, Department of Surgery, UH Conneaut Medical Center on Conneaut A.M. Live with Pat Williams, CableSuite541 Channel 6 and Time Warner Cable Channel 21. That evening, Conneaut Primary Care will hold an open house from 3:30 – 6 p.m. where the community can meet Dr. Abi.

Residents can look forward to the presence of another UH physician who is invested in Conneaut beyond her internal medicine practice. “I want to be involved with this community – especially its children,” says Dr. Abi. “One of my personal interests has always been working with disadvantaged kids, finding what their strengths are and helping them find the resources to put them on the right track so they can be good citizens and contribute to their community.”

A native of Canada, Dr. Abi received her medical degree from St. Georges University in Grenada, West Indies in 2010. To schedule an internal medicine consultation with Dr. Abi Sundaramoorthy at Conneaut Primary Care, call 440-599-7466.
