Experienced specialist offers kidney stone and prostate disease care close to home

Bedford and Richmond Heights, Ohio – University Hospitals (UH) Bedford and Richmond medical centers, campuses of UH Regional Hospitals, welcome board-certified, fellowship-trained urologist Seymour Kilstein, DO, FACOS, to their facilities’ specialized urology teams.

Dr. Kilstein is an experienced, acclaimed physician who now offers comprehensive urology services to men and women at both hospitals. He specializes in kidney stone and prostate disease, and provides care for conditions including cancers of the urinary tract; urinary infections; incontinence and retention problems; overactive bladder; erectile dysfunction; and infertility. He also performs cystoscopies and vasectomies.

Dr. Kilstein was born in Philadelphia and was a high school and college basketball star. After becoming a urologist, he owned the Lancaster Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association for nearly ten years. Many of his patients enjoy talking sports with him. “I treat people like family,” says Dr. Kilstein. “I make it a point to take time with each of my patients, and they love it.”

Most patients who see Dr. Kilstein for kidney stone disease are treated with a minimally invasive laser or noninvasive shock wave lithotripsy procedure to break up the stones. Dr. Kilstein was one of the first urologists to perform laser surgery for kidney stones in Pennsylvania.

For treatment of enlarged prostate and other prostatic diseases, Dr. Kilstein offers an advanced procedure called transurethral needle ablation (TUNA). “This is an easy, effective and far less expensive treatment for men that does not involve general anesthesia or an IV and also minimizes the chance of blood loss and erectile dysfunction,” says Dr. Kilstein. “The procedure is done in the office, it typically takes less than ten minutes and the patient is usually able to go back to regular activities the next day.”

After many successful years in hospital-based positions and private practice in Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania, Dr. Kilstein joined UH in October. “I wanted to come back to a large metropolitan area to practice,” says Dr. Kilstein. “The people here are incredibly friendly. Cleveland is a great city and University Hospitals is a great health system.”

Dr. Kilstein consults with and treats patients at UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers each week. Patients are usually able to be seen the same week they call for an appointment.

“Dr. Kilstein is a valuable addition to our medical staff at both hospitals,” says Laurie Delgado, President, UH Bedford and Richmond medical centers. “His immense skill and years of experience will benefit both male and female patients with urologic health concerns. The warm rapport he establishes with his patients will ensure a positive experience every time.”
