Neuromuscular Medicine specialist expands hospital’s UH Neurological Institute capabilities

GEAUGA COUNTY – Board-certified Neurologist and Neuromuscular Medicine specialist Aamir Hussain, MD has joined University Hospitals (UH) Neurological Institute at UH Geauga Medical Center. Dr. Hussain will consult with, diagnose and treat patients with neurological conditions such as chronic headache, seizures, Parkinson’s Disease and stroke, as well as more specialized nerve and muscle disorders like carpal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathy, polyneuropathy, Myasthenia Gravis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

“I will be seeing patients who present with nerve-related symptoms like tingling or numbness in the fingers or feet, or in the mouth,” says Dr. Hussain. “I’m also excited to offer care for patients with nerve and muscle conditions that cause them numbness, discomfort, pain, fatigue or that prevent them from walking; navigating stairs; using their hands and arms; moving objects from shelves or walking; and other activities associated with quality of life.”

Dr. Hussain trained and has practiced at major metropolitan hospitals in Philadelphia, New York City and Cleveland. “With Dr. Hussain’s arrival, the UH Neurological Institute facility at our hospital is able to better enhance the care of individuals with acute and chronic neurological conditions as both inpatients and outpatients,” says David Kosnosky, DO, Chief Medical Officer, UH Geauga Medical Center. “Dr. Hussain will be working with our other fine neurologist, Dr. Mark Rorick, to broaden the care that we give our neurology patients so they can have a greater opportunity to receive that care comprehensively, close to home.”

In July, UH Geauga Medical Center was recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals Metro Area Rankings” for its high performance in Neurology and Neurosurgery. “Dr. Hussain is a great addition to the Neurology team at our hospital,” says Peggy Kuhar, RN, Chief Nursing Officer, UH Geauga Medical Center. “Dr. Hussain will help lead the stroke team, sustain our hospital’s Joint Commission Stroke Center certification and ensure the highest level of care for our community.”

Dr. Hussain’s neurological expertise includes administering trigger point injections for chronic headache; and nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG) to diagnose nerve and muscle disorders and neuromuscular junction disorders. “I have always wanted to offer this kind of neurological care in a community setting,” says Dr. Hussain. “It is the same level of care I provide at University Hospitals main campus in Cleveland.”

The UH Neurological Institute at UH Geauga Medical Center provides innovative, integrated and individualized care to patients with diseases affecting the nervous system. To schedule an appointment with Aamir Hussain, MD or Mark Rorick, MD at UH Geauga Medical Center, call 440-285-7757.
