NI Nurse Schultz Receives Clinical Excellence Award

University Hospitals Neurological Institute nurse Paula Schultz, RN BSN, recently received a Clinical Excellence Award from University Hospitals based on feedback from patients, families, peers and hospital leaders.

Schultz serves as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator for the Neurological Institute at University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

Clinical Excellence Awards are presented to staff RNs who merit special recognition for their exemplary, consistent patient care as identified by patients, families, peers and others.


  • The nominee must be a RN in Perioperative or Perianesthesia Nursing, working a minimum of 24 hours per week in a non-administrative role: 75% of position is in direct patient care.
  • Minimum 1-year tenure in current position, in good standing and not currently in the disciplinary process.
  • An RN may nominate only one RN.
  • Candidates who have been awardees in the past 5 years are not eligible.

The nominations need to include outcomes related to at least one of the following areas:

  • Patient Care – Demonstrates outstanding, consistent, knowledge-based care in an individualized and compassionate manner. Coordinates clinical resources for patient focused care.
  • Relationship Based Family Centered Care – Enables and collaborates with family as equal partners in care. Influences the practice of Family Centered Care in daily patient care, including education and advocacy. Demonstrates courtesy, concern and appropriate terminology in explaining condition, procedures, etc., which are important elements of family/patient satisfaction.
  • Programs, Projects, Committees – Participates in development of programs and projects that result in improved quality of care, productivity and cost containment. Regularly attends committee meetings, actively contributes to the agenda and shares information with his/her co-workers.
  • Research, Education, Publication, Presentation – Uses research data to improve quality of care. Participates in research and education efforts.
