Case Medical Student Presents at Lepow Day 2012

Andrew Zhang, second-year medical student in the University Program at the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, presented at Irwin H. Lepow Day 2012 February 16th at Wolstein Auditorium. Zhang was one of only eight presenters this year, with more than 100 abstracts submitted.

Named for the prominent researcher and CWRU alum, Irwin H. Lepow Day is an annual event focused presentations and discussions of science and medicine by faculty, student scholars and future physician scientists.

Zhang presented "Notch Pathway Inhibition in Gamma-Secretase Inhibitor Treated Malignant Glioma Cells" to a number of faculty, students and visiting lecturers.

This past summer, Andrew worked in Dr. Andrew Sloan's lab and was supported by the CWRU Dean's Summer Research Award. He is currently considering oncology as a specialty but keeping his options open as he enters his clerkships.

The following CWRU SOM Department of Neurological Surgery students were recognized for their poster contributions:

  • Glioma Derived Stem Cell Migration in Presence and Absence of Endothelial Cells by Keren Zhou
  • Gene Expression Analysis of GBM Cell Lines Treated with Inhibitors of the Sonic Hedgehog-GLI Signaling Pathway by Yunwei Chen
  • Investigating the Role of TGF-β in Glioma by Adam Margolius
