A Message from the Office of Sustainability

Think about the places you live your life: Your home, your workplace, where you play, even how and where you travel. Now ask yourself the question, “Do those places make me healthy?” It is an unconventional question, but a vitally important one in your quest for wellness. The human body cannot be healthy if the environment it is in does not support health. Our interactions with the air, water, soil, food, buildings and the things we use daily affect our bodies and how they function, including our mental and emotional state. With our Greening UH program, we aim to support wellness beyond the body so that our patients, visitors and employees can heal, work and play in health-supporting environments.

This 2016 Progress Report on Sustainability explores the various places where we are striving to make environmentally responsible decisions that support human health and well-being.

Our environmental commitment: We are committed to sustainability to enhance the health and well-being of our patients, employees and local community through the stewardship of our natural environment.

Sincerely,

The UH Office of Sustainability
