Improving the Way We Are Moving
University Hospitals is a constantly moving system. Tens of thousands of people travel to and from our facilities every day to work, be treated, or deliver goods and services. Fossil fuel-based travel can significantly affect air quality and health, generating particulate pollution that can cause adverse health effects.
Healthier, more sustainable forms of transportation are available, and UH is taking steps to encourage them. Our RTA Commuter Advantage Program supports the use of public transportation; parking priority is being given to fuel-efficient and carpool vehicles; and biking or walking to work is always encouraged as a healthy way to get where you need to go.
RTA Commuter Advantage Program
UH and RTA have teamed up to bring the Commuter Advantage Program, a payroll deduction plan to pay transit fares on a pre-tax basis. To enroll, call the UH Cleveland Medical Center Parking Office at 216-844-PARK. Visit the RTA website for program details.
UH has partnered with Cuyahoga County and Bike Cleveland to sponsor Cleveland’s new bike share program. The program pre-launched on July 15, 2016 with 100 temporary green-colored bikes in time for the Republican National Convention. The official launch of UHBikes took place September 21, 2016 by rolling out 250 red-colored bikes branded with the UH logo throughout the city. To learn how to use the bike share program and the various locations visit UHBikes.com.
Commuter Choice Award
On Sept. 21, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center earned the GOLD level award of the Commuter Choice Challenge through Sustainable Cleveland 2019 for our efforts to encourage sustainable and healthy transportation alternatives to our patients, visitors and employees. We are recognized for supporting the CircleLink shuttles, offering electric vehicle charging stations, supporting bike share in our community, the RTA Commuter Advantage Program, and biking programs that earn HealthyUH points. Our performance in this area has improved each year since the contest started in 2014 and our organization is continually held up as an excellent example for others to follow.
