University Hospitals Receives 11 Environmental Excellence Awards for Achievements in Sustainability
UH received 11 Environmental Excellence awards from Practice Greenhealth, including the prestigious System for Change award, for our systemwide achievements in sustainability in 2012.
The System for Change Award recognizes health systems that are working cohesively to set system goals, track data, benchmark, and share successes in environmental performance.
Several of our hospitals also received the Practice Greenhealth Partner for Change Award. This award recognizes health care facilities that have established environmental programs and continuously improve and expand upon these programs on the path to sustainability. The UH hospitals that earned the Partner for Change Award include UH Ahuja Medical Center, UH Geauga Medical Center, UH Richmond Medical Center and St. John Medical Center.
Additionally, UH Bedford Medical Center, UH Case Medical Center, UH Conneaut medical Center and UH Geneva Medical Center received the Partner Recognition Award, which honors health care facilities that have begun to work on environmental improvements, have achieved progress in several areas, and have at least 10 percent recycling rate for their total waste stream.
Two of our hospitals also earned the Making Medicine Mercury-Free Award, recognizing hospitals that have virtually eliminated mercury from their facilities and have made a commitment to continue to be mercury-free.
