Thomson Reuters Top 15 Major Teaching Hospitals
Thomson Reuters Names UH Case Medical Center as One of Top 15 Major Teaching Hospitals in the Nation
For fifth year in a Row, UH Case Medical Center recognized for quality patient care
Thomson Reuters announced that University Hospitals Case Medical Center is one of the top 15 Major Teaching Hospitals in the nation for the fifth year in a row. It is the only hospital from Northeast Ohio on the list in the Major Teaching Hospitals category.
The recognition is part of Thomson Reuters’ annual study identifying the 100 top U.S. hospitals based on their overall organizational performance. The study found that the 15 top major teaching hospitals had scored better than their peer group of U.S. hospitals in mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average length of stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care, and post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and pneumonia.
“This recognition is a tribute to the remarkable work performed day in and day out by the physicians, nurses and staff members here who continually seek to improve the quality of patient care on several fronts,” said Fred C. Rothstein, MD, President of UH Case Medical Center. “They have made University Hospitals Case Medical Center a national model of excellence and quality standards.”
To conduct the study, Thomson Reuters’ researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term acute care, non-federal hospitals. They used public information from Medicare and Medicaid.
Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs at Thomson Reuters, said, “This year’s study magnified the value that 100 Top Hospital award winners provide to their communities. Even during the economic downturn, the 100 Top Hospitals maintained a profit from operations while raising the bar for clinical quality and patient satisfaction. The insistence of these hospitals’ leaders—their boards, executive teams and medical staffs—on overall excellence makes the difference.”
