My passion for achieving wellness through nutrition and physical activity goes way beyond weight management and fitting into your skinny jeans. To me, nutrition and activity is a means to achieve your optimal well-being. When we fuel ourselves right with good nutritional choices, we feel better. We are happier. We are more productive. We love ourselves (and others) a little more. There are very few things in this world that we do just for us anymore, especially working in health care. We are often giving, giving, giving to others, and not taking care of us. Choosing to treat ourselves right with a balanced meal, healthy snacks and making time for physical activity is our opportunity to focus on us and make choices that ultimately can lead us to a happier, healthier and stronger life.

My hope for UH OptiWeight is to share this passion and knowledge for balanced nutrition and a physically active lifestyle to help you all adopt a healthier life that will ultimately lead you to your optimal weight.

I look forward to working with each and every one of you to achieve your optimal weight. And, I hope you are all ready to have a little fun along the way.

Eat Well. Feel Well.

I believe that everyone has the power within themselves to achieve wellness. Wellness is defined as an ongoing process of becoming aware and making choices toward a healthier, happier state in life. Most people don’t realize their potential. It all begins with taking an honest look at yourself and your values. What are your hopes, dreams, and goals? What matters to you? Each person has unique and wonderful gifts to share with the world; what are yours? After finding your strengths, take a look at your weaknesses, as we all have those too. Then accept yourself, just as you are today, in this moment and own it all.

Take responsibility for yourself and your choices as this is where the power to change lies. What can you do to take better care of yourself? Are you uncomfortable with your weight? Do you have health issues that you have been neglecting? Are you too stressed? What steps can you take today to feel better, stronger, more in control, and ultimately happier? How do you treat yourself? Are you kind and loving, or critical and negative? Being well begins with YOU. Are you ready? The UH OptiWeight program is a great place to start. I can’t wait to see your best “you” emerge, grow, fly and soar. It is an amazing journey –begin today.

Wellness is a way of life and something I continue to strive for every day. Through proper guidance and support, I find others too can commit to improving their overall health and wellness and be more likely to succeed. Often we set goals, or resolutions which eventually fall to the wayside when work and life get in the way, but when we hold ourselves accountable and choose not to accept this, important change occurs; we no longer mislead ourselves with excuses like “diet starts Monday” or “I’ve been too busy to go to the gym”. With proper nutrition, physical activity and a little bit of discipline, wellness can be very much a reality if you are willing to put in the time and effort. We all have busy schedules and life will get in the way, but if you are able to overcome these small obstacles and not put off what can be done today, then you are one step closer to realizing your goals.

For me, the most important step in achieving wellness is through behavior change and setting appropriate goals. Perhaps your doctor advised you to reduce your cholesterol intake, maybe you have dreams of running a 5K, or maybe you just want to learn more about whole grains. Whatever your reason (or reasons) for wanting to improve your health, develop a path that minimizes temptation, highlights your strengths and allows you to recognize your true potential. I believe that UH OptiWeight enables people to realize this potential and that the goal of achieving wellness is not impossible. Everyone should feel confident in making decisions to better themselves through diet and exercise. I am so proud to be a part of this program and to be given the opportunity to help others reach their goals.
