Jen's Story

Jen’s Weight Loss Journey with UH OptiWeight

Jen's Story Before

Before

In the last 7 months, Jen has lost over 40 pounds, a 17 percent weight loss. She has lost over 10 inches in her waist.

“Currently, I am about half way to my goal weight, and before long I know I will get there, but I also know when I get there, this doesn’t stop. This is my life, my healthy life.”

I started this journey in January as part of a competition, actually. I really thought that UH OptiWeight could be a real asset to me, and it was! I learned so much about nutrition, healthy habits, and how to make the correct choices. I looked forward to going to class to show the improvements I made each week. That was really motivating.

I work out regularly and make time for my health. Before this program, I looked at working out as a burden, or something that took up precious time. But now working out is my precious time: my time for me and the time I have to work on a better me.

Jen's Story After

After

I still refer to my UH OptiWeight binder for tips and helpful information. The temptation to fall into old, bad habits have come up, but I know what the outcomes of those bad habits and poor choices are, and I just choose not to go back.

What motivated you to participate in UH OptiWeight?

I wanted to lose weight and get healthy. I needed a group that was convenient for me, and lunch time at work was extremely convenient. Going to school and working full-time while trying to be a wife and a mother didn’t leave a lot of time for me to go somewhere after work. And let’s face it -- not making time for myself got me into this situation!

Why UH OptiWeight?
What unexpected impact did UH OptiWeight have on your life?

The desire to share my successes and how I got here with others. I love to share what I’ve learned and talk about nutrition and exercise with those who ask me, “What are you doing? You look great!” I love to see their faces when I say I’m eating less, moving more, and making better choices. There’s no more secret than that!

What has been your biggest success so far?
What has been your biggest challenge?

Time still remains my biggest challenge. I don’t worry about the food anymore. I know what the right choices are but making the time to prepare the food ahead of time can be challenging. But, I realize that if I don’t prepare ahead of time, I need to make the best choice in front of me, record it, and move on.
