Okay, I admit it – this food logging stuff works

I’ve been participating in the UH OptiWeight program for roughly two weeks now and using MyFitnessPal. Guess what? I’ve already lost 8 POUNDS!

MyFitnessPal, a calorie counter and exercise tracker, is a website that has a ton of tools for managing your weight, and the companion iPhone app (free) by the same name is even better (there are apps for Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry, too). The MyFitnessPal iPhone app couldn't be easier or quicker to use, and that's what sets it apart from the pack of other calorie-counting apps.

Let’s be frank here - I hate calorie counting. Typically, when I’m supposed to be logging my food the “old fashioned way” – that is, manually writing my food down – I usually fail within the first several days. Now, because I’m using the fun MyFitnessPal smartphone app, I actually enjoy documenting my food.

Why? Here are a couple of reasons why I love MyFitnessPal:

  1. There’s a huge database of foods
  2. There’s a helpful meal feature (if you eat the same thing often)
  3. It tracks everything, including exercise
  4. There’s a community with active message boards
  5. I get weight loss badges!

If you can’t tell, I highly recommend MyFitnessPal. The app makes me so much more aware of what I’m eating and when. So long as I need to track the calories I'm consuming and burning, I'll do it with MyFitnessPal.
