Compliance and Ethics Policy Changes

On March 11, the UH Policy and Procedure Group (PPG) posted revised versions of the following Compliance and Ethic Policies and Procedures: CE-1, CE-2, CE-3, CE-4, CE-5, CE-12 and CE-16.  CE-16 was updated to reflect the current process for monitoring and auditing UH claim submissions to federal, state and private payor health care programs. The remaining policy changes were made as part of the normal triennial review and reflect policy name changes, current titles and reporting structure, and current policy formatting guidelines.  

On April 12, PPG posted a revised version of CE-20, which governs physician relationships with outside sources. Click “read more” for an overview of significant changes made to policy CE-20.

Employee Tours Today at UH Seidman Cancer Center

Tours of the new UH Seidman Cancer Center are available for UH employees today from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Employees must present their UH identification badge for entry into the new building.

New Telephone Numbers for UH Seidman Cancer Center

Telephone numbers throughout the new UH Seidman Cancer Center building at UH Case Medical Center have been assigned from 216-286-3001 to 216-286-3999.

Radiation oncology services will be available to adult outpatients beginning on April 20, and it is possible that employees may receive calls or pages from extensions ranging from 6-3001 to 6-3999.

Changes to the UH Paging System

Please use the following numbers for sending a page when you are outside the UH environment, starting May 3: 

  • For numeric pages: 216-207-7244 (replaces 216-464-8410)
  • For alphanumeric pages: 216-522-1000 (replaces 216-831-9416)

During May, the existing numbers will be deactivated. Additionally, as a result of the changes, when viewing a page you may notice minor differences in the appearance of a sending number.  All other paging functions will work the same they do currently.

Job Advancement Skills Available to UH Employees

Bridge to Your Future is a new "bridge to college" program available to employees who want to improve their math and reading skills in order to pursue opportunities in the health care field.  Using an Internet-based learning system, employees will be assessed and then provided with an individualized learning plan to build on their skills.

Beverage Offerings to be Revamped Systemwide May 1

As part of Mayor Frank Jackson’s Healthy Cleveland and University Hospitals’ Wellness Matters strategy, sugar-based beverages will be removed from all UH cafeterias and vending machines, effective Sunday, May 1. The removal of sugar-based sodas and juices reflects UH’s commitment to Healthy Cleveland’s goal to make it easier for residents to select healthy choices.

Employees are welcome to bring their own soda or juice to work; however, sugar-based beverages will no longer be available for purchase in UH facilities after May 1. For tips on making healthy food and drink choices and improving your overall wellness, visit UHWellness.org

UHCare Training for 5.5 Upgrade

UHCare will be upgraded from version 5.0 to Allscripts version 5.5 on Tuesday, June 14. To familiarize UHCare users with the new look and feel of 5.5, the IT&S Training and Development team will provide the following role-based training sessions:

  • Superuser nurses are required to attend a hands-on, classroom-based training session offered Monday, May 23 through early June.
  • Other training opportunities for UHCare users will include:
    • A physician-specific, computer-based training (CBT) session
    • A CBT for non-physician UHCare users
    • On-site demos and webinars
    • An online video, which provides a high-level overview of 5.5 features

Reminder: Remove Unneeded Folders from Network Drives by April 29

UH is investing in new technology to help access files on the shared drive (S drive) and personal drive (P drive) more quickly! The new technology, NetApp, will replace the current technology implemented approximately 10 years ago.

Action required: As IT&S prepares to install NetApp, the team requests employees delete any unneeded folders and files from the S and P drives by noon Friday, April 29.

MarkView Upgrade

The IT&S Business Systems Group will upgrade MarkView to the most current version this week. The upgrade will provide improved functionality for Internet Expense (IExpense) approvers and Self-Service Invoice (SSI) approvers and requestors.

UH Center for Music and Medicine Seeking Employees to Perform

The UH Neurological Institute’s Center for Music and Medicine is seeking musically inclined employees to perform in the UH Case Medical Center Atrium as part of its free “Encore” concert series.

The Center for Music and Medicine is a collaboration between UH Case Medical Center and CWRU with the purpose of promoting healing, enhancing discovery of the neurological foundations of music, and communicating these discoveries to a variety of audiences.

Botulinum Toxin Clinic Available to Treat Spasticity and Migraines

UH Movement Disorders Center has expanded its uses for botulinum toxin. Known for helping smooth wrinkles, botulinum toxin (including Botox) may now help patients with spasticity of the arms from cerebral palsy or following brain injury from stroke or multiple sclerosis.

In addition, the FDA recently approved Botox to treat chronic migraine headache in adults, noting it has been shown to be effective in the prevention of migraines, which are debilitating headaches that cause intense pulsing or throbbing pain and affect about 12 percent of Americans.

2011 Cleveland Arthritis Walk

Lace up your sneakers and join thousands of Northeast Ohioans as they come together to raise awareness for arthritis Saturday, April 30, at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Sponsored by UH, the Cleveland Arthritis Walk is a non-competitive 5K (3.1 miles) event, with a one-mile option. The cost of registration, which includes admission to the Zoo and Rainforest, will be waived for walkers who raise more than $100. The event is a day of live music, entertainment, kids’ activities, giveaways and refreshments. All proceeds will benefit the Arthritis Foundation, Northeastern Ohio Chapter, and support local arthritis research as well as programs and services that help the nearly 1.5 million children and adults in the area living with arthritis. EAP Brown Bag: How to Read a Credit Report and Interpret Your Score

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is sponsoring a brown bag workshop on Wednesday, April 20, from noon –1 p.m. in Kulas Auditorium titled, "How to Read a Credit Report and Interpret Your Score." Keynote speaker, Ram Mayekar, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, will educate participants on the five major components of an FICO score, the rating typically used by lenders to determine an individual’s creditworthiness.  Tips for improving credit scores and reducing debt will also be discussed.

UH Geauga Medical Center is a major sponsor of the 2011 Geauga Maple Festival, to be held April 28 – May 1 on Chardon Square. The main exhibitor tent will carry the UH name and the hospital’s programs and services will be featured at a prominent booth location. Dozens of UH Geauga Medical Center employees and their families will also participate in the grand parades, which step off at 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
