Now Available in the LMS: Outlook Web Mail Online Training

Microsoft Outlook Web Mail is UH’s application of choice for sending and receiving e-mail, and for scheduling meetings and appointments. The IT&S Change Management and Training Development team is now offering an online training course to educate employees on how to access Outlook Web Mail, send and receive e-mail and use the calendar feature. E-mail etiquette, important reminders about retention folders, tips and tricks, and other UH policies will also be discussed.

Ninth Annual Cleveland St. Baldrick’s Foundation Event

Consider joining UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital staffers as they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by shaving their heads to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, an organization dedicated to childhood cancer research. The event, dubbed St. Baldrick’s Day, will be held at A.J. Rocco’s Salon in Cleveland on March 17.

UH Digestive Health Institute’s Bariatric Surgery Program

UH Digestive Health Institute’s Bariatric Surgery and Nutrition Center will now be able to help more people embrace a healthier lifestyle. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has lowered the Body Mass Index (BMI) limit for individuals seeking bariatric surgery with its approval of the LAP-BAND® System, the first device made for patients with a BMI of at least 40 kg/ m2 or a BMI of at least 30 kg/m2 with one or more weight-related illnesses.

This change will allow the Bariatric Surgery Program to offer its services to a greater range of patients.

Blood Donors Needed Today

The urgent need for blood continues since winter weather has forced the cancellation of numerous blood drives throughout the area.  Please help ensure a continuous supply of blood and blood products for our patients by participating in the blood drive today, Feb. 21, at UH Case Medical Center in the Rainbow Performance Area from 12:30-5 p.m.

Employees may participate in UH-sponsored blood drives during their work time provided they make prior arrangements with their supervisor. As an added bonus, UH meal tickets ($5.00 value) will be raffled to ten individuals who successfully donate today.

Second Annual Celebration of Women in Nursing

To honor the many contributions female nurses have made to their profession, the Nursing Diversity Council is sponsoring a poster display March 21-24, on the UH Case Medical Center Atrium Bridge. Submitted by nurses at UH Case Medical Center and Frances Payne Bolton College of Nursing, the posters will feature the names and faces of women from all cultural backgrounds and origins who have made local, national or international contributions to nursing. This event is open to the public.

UH Harrington- McLaughlin Heart & Vascular Institute’s Heart Failure Center is sponsoring a Heart Failure Awareness Day on Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Atrium Bridge. Nurses from the Heart Failure team will be at the event to discuss diagnosis and management of this chronic disease that affects five million Americans.

Quality and Patient Safety Fair

Come and join us as we “Check into Quality” during our Quality and Patient Safety Fair being held March 8-10, in the UH Case Medical Center Atrium.

We will have two keynote speakers this year. The first speaker is Richard Gilfillan, MD, MBA, acting director of the new center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMI). Our second keynote speaker is Marcus Engel, who was blinded and severely injured in a car accident. He will share his dramatic story, which is sure to reignite health care professionals’ passion and commitment to providing excellent patient care.
