2010 UH Employee Compliance Training Deadline Nears
The deadline for 2010 Employee Compliance training is just two weeks away. So far, over 9,100 employees, or 77 percent of all UH employees have completed the training. Everyone hired before Sept. 1, 2009, is required to complete the 2010 Employee Compliance training by July 15. All managers are asked to review the compliance training results to ensure their staffs have completed this required training. Training results are available on the Compliance & Ethics site under the Training Report for Managers tab.
All employees have been pre-enrolled in the LMS for electronic training. The last remaining live training session is Wednesday, June 30, at 5 a.m. in Kulas Auditorium. For more information contact Allee Lesnick at 216-767-8224 or Allee.Lesnick@UHhospitals.org.

Help us Re-Name the Employee Appreciation Program
The Employee Appreciation programs are being enhanced and will re-launch Aug. 9. The appreciation program “Catching U At Your Best” needs a new name to reflect it’s new look, and we need your help! The renaming contest will last until Thursday, July 1. To enter the contest send your suggestion(s) to Valerie Jaggie and use the word “Contest” in the e-mail subject. Everyone is encouraged to participate; and you may submit as many times as you like.

Our Corporate Intranet Needs a New Name – and we need your help!
This fall, UH physicians and employees will notice a big change to the current intranet. While IT&S continues to work hard developing a re-branded, user friendly communications platform, we’re looking to tap our employees for their creativity to re-name the intranet!
To enter the intranet re-naming contest, click here, and submit your new idea or vote for a name you like that was already submitted. The contest will run through Friday, July 2. The top three names will be presented to senior leadership for their input and approval. If your idea is selected as the new name, you will receive a special recognition in Weekly Report.

A Shape Up UH Challenge Reminder
As we enter the final round of our first Shape Up UH challenge, participants are reminded to track and submit your results by logging into your accounts through: UHWellness.org under Health Matters. If you registered your cell phone information you may respond to text message reminders to submit your results. You can also call the participant support line at 1-877-848-0971 to report your results or submit your completed log sheet to your team captain to submit results on your behalf.
The fifth round ends at midnight Sunday, June 27. Once the round ends, you have 48-hours to submit your data. Teams will have until midnight Tuesday, June 29, to submit data for the fifth round. The standings are announced by Shape Up UH the following day.

UH Cochlear Implant Program Reaches Milestone
The Cochlear Implant program at University Hospitals recently performed a milestone surgery, implanting its 500th cochlear device on June 18. Co-founded in 1995 by James E. Arnold, MD, FACS, Chairman of the UH Department of Otolaryngology and Gail Murray, PhD, CCC-A, Director of Audiology Services at UH, the program is currently co-led by Murray, Clinical Director, and Cliff A. Megerian, MD, FACS, The Richard and Patricia Pogue Chair in Auditory Surgery and Hearing Sciences and Medical Director. Thanks to the expertise of it’s multidisciplinary team, the Cochlear Implant Program at UH has become the 5th busiest in the country providing or restoring the gift of hearing to 500 adults and children.

Eye Exams Available to UH Employees at No Cost to You

UH employees and their family members covered by the UH Anthem insurance plan can now receive a vision exam from UH Eye Institute optometrists and ophthalmologists at no cost. Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight Run
Join Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight in their first 5k and one-mile run/walk to fight against childhood obesity. The event takes place Sunday, July 18, at Wade Oval in University Circle starting at 8:30 a.m. Stay after the race for the Health Expo featuring entertainment along with vendors from local health and fitness organizations.

Free Epilepsy Talk at UH Westlake Health Center
UH Neurological Institute’s Epilepsy Center will host “Seizing Control,” a free educational forum on adult epilepsy management and treatment options Tuesday, June 29, from 7-8 p.m. at UH Westlake Health Center. That evening, Dr. Tanvir Syed will present “Is Your Epilepsy Being Properly Managed?” and field questions from attendees afterward.

Golf Tournament to benefit UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital
The 10th Annual Audi Quattro Cup is the largest amateur golf tournament in the world and proceeds from this year’s local cup sponsored by Fred Baker benefit the patients at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. The Circle of Friends program welcomes you to participate in the first local round of this tournament on Thursday, July 15, at Barrington Country Club. The winning two-player team will continue on to play at the U.S. Final at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina on Aug. 27 - 29 (all expenses paid). The winning team from U.S. Final will continue to the championship Oct. 8-12 on the breathtaking course at Pevero Golf Club, on the Island of Sardinia, Italy. Entry fee is $220. UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s NICU Receives Two Design Awards
UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) received the Bronze Citation in the 2010 American School & University Educational Interiors Showcase. This is a premier competition recognizing education design excellence. UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s NICU will be one of 95 projects profiled in the August 2010 issue of American School and University.
The NICU also received a high commendation in this year’s prestigious International Interior Design award at the Design & Health International Academy Awards 2010. This award recognizes therapeutic spaces that enhance the health, well-being and quality of life for patients, staff and visitors. It also recognizes projects which respect the privacy and dignity of patients, while demonstrating originality in design approach and attention to environmental sustainability.

Community Outreach Department at UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers provides CPR training in school with outstanding results
The results are in. During the 2009/10 school year 1,178 local ninth and tenth graders attending Ashtabula County high schools passed the National Safety Council Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills test and written exam, making them CPR certified and armed with the knowledge and skill to save a life.

University Hospitals Conneaut and Geneva medical centers launch UH Student Academy
UH Student Academy, a privately funded program designed for local high school incoming seniors, was developed to reach out to students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care. UH Student Academy is a paid, eight-week internship where two students will receive hands-on experience in a dynamic environment at both UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers and in various facets of the organization.
Tyra Miller, a senior at Lakeside High School, and Taylor DuFour, a senior at Edgewood High School, are the two students selected for the inaugural summer academy after a committee reviewed many applications by enthusiastic students.
