University Hospitals Case Medical Center has been listed as a top teaching hospital in a study done by Thomson Healthcare. The study ranked the top 100 hospitals that delivered the highest performance balance of quality, efficiency and financial stability.
The study, Trends in Patient Safety Adverse Outcomes and 100 Top Hospitals Performance 2000-2005, examined changes in patient safety scores of Medicare populations across eight patient safety indicators established by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The reviewed clinical and financial areas include risk-adjusted death rates, a patient safety composite, patient severity-adjusted average length of stay, expense per adjusted discharge and profit from operations.
Thomson Healthcare, which includes Medstat, MercuryMD, Micromedex, PDR and Solucient, works with hospitals, doctors, employers, insurers and health care companies in offering databases and research services.
