Thomas F. Zenty III, UH CEO, Donates $1 Million to UH and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital
During this season of giving, Thomas F. Zenty III, CEO, UH, is taking time to give back to the health system he has led for the past five years. Mr. Zenty announced a personal gift commitment of $1 million in support of the Vision 2010 strategic plan. This generous gift, made in honor of his parents, Edna and Thomas F. Zenty, Jr., will establish two endowed funds in support of UH and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

Jarvis Joiner Awarded 2009 Henry Meyer III Administrative Fellowship
Jarvis Joiner, RN, MSN, CNS, a surgical quality review nurse at UH Case Medical Center, begins the one-year rotation in health care administration this December. She will spend 2009 in an observational learning environment across seven UH hospitals and more than a dozen administrative departments (including Marketing, Human Resources, Diversity, Supply Chain, Facilities, Management Services Organization, Home Care, Operations, Finance and Administration). The Henry Meyer III Administrative Fellowship was created to promote minority administrative leadership development.

UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Gains International Recognition for Life-Saving ECMO Treatment
The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Center at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital recently received the Excellence in Life Support Award from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). The ELSO is an international consortium of centers offering ECMO for support of failing organ systems in infants, children and adults.

MySecureCare Update: Downtime for Upgrade to Occur this Weekend
A nine-hour downtime for the MySecureCare upgrade will be necessary from approximately 10 p.m. Dec. 6 until 7 a.m. Dec. 7. The upgrade, which impacts all clinicians and physicians who currently use ED Tracking Board and Patient Lists and Results Management (PLRM), is scheduled to go live after the downtime is completed.
Auditorium-style presentations to learn more about the new enhancements will be offered at all UH facilities through the end of the week. To view a training schedule or access materials, click here.

Volunteer Services is Accepting Donations to Decorate Mitten Tree
Beginning today through Dec. 31, the Volunteer Services Department is accepting donations of new or gently used winter items for adults and children to decorate the “Mitten Tree.” We are also accepting new items for families in need including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, shampoos, feminine hygiene products, combs, underwear, etc. All donations will be distributed to UH patients and families this winter. Items may be dropped off at the Volunteer Services Department (Wearn 133) or via inter-office mail at mail-stop WRN 5019.

New Postal Regulation Move Update is now in Effect; Will Avoid Penalty Fees for UH
As of Nov. 23, all mailers wishing to take advantage of presort or automation discounts on all classes of mail must submit their mailing list to a U.S. Postal Service-approved address hygiene service within 95 days prior to mailing, as part of a new Move Update requirement.

Beginning in December, Supply Chain will introduce the first phase of Supplier Gateway, a software solution that provides an integrated supplier management process. If you process honorariums or reimbursements for non-employees, you will find that Supplier Gateway provides a streamlined process for supplier setups as well as the delivery of W9 paperwork to Accounts Payable and Supply Chain. In addition, you will be able to track all submitted requests for supplier setups from your Supplier Gateway account.

UH Helping Cleveland EMS get Heart Attack Victims Treated Faster
The Plain Dealer featured Nov. 28 that Daniel Simon, MD, Chief, Cardiovascular Medicine at UH, is pushing Cleveland Emergency Medical Services to get patients life-saving treatment more quickly. Dr. Simon said heart attack victims have a better chance of survival in many suburbs than in downtown Cleveland because the city's Emergency Medical Services lacks the ability to transmit EKGs to hospitals. The hospital is providing the city with $30,000 for modems to transmit the data, as well as paramedic training. Click here to read the article.

- Back up valuable data before traveling
- Do not put a laptop in checked luggage
- Clearly label your laptop to distinguish it from others at security check-points
- Ask to put your laptop in the hotel safe when its not being used
- Use cable locks to secure your PC
- Use USB/thumb drives with encryption
- Do not access financial or bank records while traveling
- Deselect "remember me" option when browsing the Internet
- Clear your history and cache after using a Web Browser
- When using a public computer, be aware of keyboard loggers and trackers
