Testimonials Needed for United Way Campaign Video
University Hospitals’ Marketing and Communications Department is producing a video for the upcoming 2008 United Way campaign. Each year, over 400,000 greater Cleveland residents benefit from United Way funded programs. We are looking for grateful UH employees whose lives have been touched by United Way and its more than 125 partner agencies. For a complete listing of United Way partner agencies, click here. We encourage you to review this list, as you may have been served by an agency without realizing it was a United Way partner.
If you would like to share your story, please send a brief description of your United Way experience for possible inclusion in the video to Loree Vick at Loree.Vick@UHhospitals.org. The deadline for story submissions is Thursday, Aug. 28.

The display, with its clean, contemporary style, brightens the corridor as it welcomes visitors and employees. The display describes a sampling of our clinical services and research programs, and demonstrates how the hard work of employees throughout the system benefits Northeast Ohio. The display also thanks our benefactors and volunteers, and features a video presentation that will change throughout the year. Currently playing: UH’s 2007 Year-in-Review. UH Psychologists Discuss Chronic Pain in Plain Dealer’s Health Section
“It takes a lot of energy just to copy with pain,” says Jeffrey Janata, PhD, Director of the Behavioral Medicine Program at UH Case Medical Center, on the first page of today’s Health Section of the Plain Dealer, as part of a feature article of how more than 70 million people in this country are in chronic pain.
“They feel that they have precious [little energy] to deal with the rest of life’s demands, and that’s demoralizing,” says Dr. Janata. The article also looks at alternatives to medications for children, and quotes Howard Hall, PhD, Pediatric Behavioral Psychologist at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. The story states that he “hooks up children to a monitor to capture their heart-rate variability, which gives a measure of their stress level. He then teaches them breathing techniques to bring the stress down, which also lowers their pain with continued practice.”
