UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital: Leading the Way in Pediatric Endocrinology
The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is a leader in the research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, obesity, growth disorders and other children’s endocrine problems. U.S. News & World Report ranked UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital 13th in the nation for pediatric endocrinology. That recognition is a reflection of both capabilities and reputation. It is based in part on the expert opinion of other pediatrics specialists around the country.

In clinical excellence: Our physicians and nurses provide consultations and care to patients and families from across Ohio and well beyond its borders. At UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, families find a team of highly skilled experts including:
- Faculty physician specialists in pediatric endocrinology (board certified in pediatric endocrinology)
- Diabetes nurse educators
- Pediatric endocrine nurse
- Fellows (fully qualified pediatricians obtaining special training in endocrinology)

Our endocrinologists are all board certified and hold leadership roles on regional and national organizations related to advancing care for children with endocrine conditions. Our physicians are consistently rated as “top doctors” by outside organizations.
In prevention and wellness: Education and prevention are front and center in all the division’s activities. We have created special programs for wellness- including The Center for Childhood Diabetes Activity and Nutrition (CCDAN), designated a Center of Excellence. The center’s team conducts many programs and community outreach to promote wellness. The division also created Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight, a program focused on helping children and adolescents develop healthier lifestyles.
In research: Important nationally funded research in diabetes, obesity, growth disorders and other chronic conditions are a major part of the division’s activities. The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism through its affiliation with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has received millions of dollars annually from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other regional and national organizations to advance the care of children.
In policy: The Center for Child Health and Policy at Rainbow focuses on major health policy issues that affect the well-being of children. The award-winning center’s activities include policy analyses, consultations to regional and national stakeholders, research, educational programming and community outreach.
In education: The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism provides the only accredited pediatric endocrinology fellowship training program in Northern Ohio. Dedicated to creating the next generation of specialists in patient care and research, this highly successful program develops outstanding clinicians and researchers. Several division members have been awarded for teaching excellence.
