Your UH IRB paper-based studies must be made electronic!
If you have a UH IRB approved research study that is paper-based you must register your study in iRIS, the UH IRB’s electronic system.
The registration process is intended for all types of studies which have received regular IRB approval (i.e. clinical trials, chart reviews, discarded tissue studies, survey studies, etc.) and have UH IRB numbers (e.g. IRB# 01-01-01). However, you will not need to register previously approved Non-Human Research Determinations (NHR-XX-XX) or Exemptions (EM-XX-XX) in iRIS, unless you intend to amend them.
The registration process involves entering your study’s currently approved information into iRIS and then the IRB will verify and approve the information. Once your registration has been submitted to and approved by the UH IRB, you will submit all future forms (i.e. Amendments, AEs, Continuing Reviews) for that research study electronically via iRIS.
You may not make changes to the protocol or consent form during the registration process. Registrations will take a few weeks to process, depending on the age of the study. If you must make immediate changes to your study, or your study requires immediate continuing review, please submit via paper submission and then register your study once that approval is obtained.
All studies must be registered by March 2012.
Instructions for registering your study are available in the registration instruction manual (iRIS “HELP” tab, User Manual Part 6).
Please contact the IRB Administration Office if you have any questions at 216-844-1529
New studies must be submitted to the UH IRB using the electronic system, iRIS
This includes New protocols (N), New Chart Reviews/ Discarded Tissue studies (NC-DT), New Requests for Exemption (EXMT) and New Requests for Determination of Human Subjects Research (DET).
Need Assistance with iRIS?
If you have a specific iRIS question and would like the guidance of an IRB staff member, please attend iRIS office hours per the schedule below. Location: Lakeside 1400.
During office hours, you and a staff member will navigate through iRIS together in order to answer your question. This is not intended to be a substitute for attendance at a training session(s). Office hours are for specific questions that you may have about a submission you are currently working on in the iRIS system.
You do not have to register for office hours but if you’d like to call ahead of time so we know to expect you and we have the computer and work space ready, feel free to call the IRB Main Line at 216-844-1529.
