Cultural Diversity Board

Board of Directors

UH is committed to diversity in its broadest dimensions and that starts with the composition of our Board of Directors. Of the 30 members on UH’s board, there are 5 women, 7 African-Americans, 2 Asians and 1 Latino. This diversity ensures that our leaders and decision makers incorporate a wide range of perspectives, opinions and experiences to drive culturally competent patient care.


UH Cultural Diversity Committee of the Board

The UH Cultural Diversity Committee of the Board was formed in 1991 to ensure that UH maintains high standards for promoting progressive diversity throughout all UH entities. As one of the chief responsibilities, the committee is empowered with the duties of developing and implementing strategies for minority recruitment and retention while furthering on a welcoming, positive, safe, and nourishing environment for the minority population of UH. A top priority of the committee is improving upon fair standards regarding diverse supplier recruitment and equality regarding patient care.

UH will actively:

  • Acknowledge and properly deal with issues and concerns related to diversity issues
  • Implement policies for promoting diversity and equality and incorporate these procedures in all ventures.
  • Rigorously study policies and procedures regarding diversity to measure their success.
  • Set aside ample funding to support the expansion of diversity initiatives.
  • Thoroughly seek individuals to contribute to a diverse staff and provide skill-building opportunities.
