About the Division of Pediatric Radiology

Safety and accuracy when you need to know

The Pediatric Division of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology provides full-time diagnostic imaging services for children and adolescents. Our division takes advantage of up-to-date radiographic, fluoroscopic, and sonographic testing practices as well as state-of-the-art MRI, CT scanning, and nuclear medicine technologies.

Our pediatric radiologists are all sub-board certified in Pediatric Radiology. We’re able to tailor studies especially for children to ensure proper dosage and position while minimizing exposure to radiation. The radiologists, nurses, and technicians who will be helping your child are dedicated exclusively to caring for children in the family-friendly environment that Rainbow is known for around the country.

In addition to our expert and compassionate medical staff, Rainbow’s Child Life Specialists are always available to help you and your child understand and prepare for a procedure. They’re experienced at providing age-appropriate activities that help to calm and distract your child as much as needed.

For your convenience, you can take your child to any of the Rainbow facilities that conduct pediatric studies, including the following System sites: UHHS Chagrin Highlands Medical Center, UHHS Westlake Medical Center, UHHS Mentor Medical Center, UHHS Euclid Health Center, UHHS Bainbridge Health Center, and University Health Center at Landerbrook. All the studies come to our Division, where we read them and report to the referring physician.

Training and education are also important aspects of our work—we are investing our time and resources into building the supply of excellent pediatric radiologists. Our activities include hosting medical students on a rotating basis and occasionally pediatric residents, supplying specific training to radiology residents, and conducting weekly lectures on a wide range of professional development topics. Some of our staff participate in weekly Pediatric Tumor Board meetings and attend monthly conferences with pediatric surgeons and gastroenterology specialists.
