Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients with all forms of congenital heart defects, in addition to pediatric patients with ailments that affect the lungs, esophagus, chest wall and diaphragm.

The Division provides comprehensive cardiac care to patients of all ages, from the newborn to the adult, and advocates complete neonatal correction of complex congenital heart defects whenever possible, including patients with tetralogy of Fallot, truncus arteriosus, atrioventricular septal detect (AV canal), transposition of the great vessels, and total anomalous pulmonary venous return.

For patients with a single ventricle, we are widely recognized for our leadership in staged palliation for univentricular hearts, such as for hypoplastic left heart syndrome, tricuspid atresia, and many others.
