The UH Neurological Institute Center for Music & Medicine is committed to educating patients, physicians and students about the music and art therapies and medical resources available.
Patient and Physician Education
Increasing evidence points to the healing effects of music. However, most patients and their physicians are unaware of the impact music can have. The center introduces patients, families, visitors and medical personnel to the world of music therapy.
Educational Conferences for the Public
New research is unlocking how our brains interpret music. From the “Mozart effect” in children to the positive impact of music in Alzheimer’s dementia, there is an ever-growing fascination with music’s healing powers, as evidenced by the recent explosion of books about the subject. The center sponsors educational conferences for both general and professional audiences about music and the brain.
